Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of Summer. It honors all soldiers who lost their lives in war.
Veterans accept the smallest amount of change for these man-made poppies. These are usually older men, sometimes showing battle wounds and obvious trauma they have suffered. It is simple kindness to offer whatever you can. After all they've been through, they are still working and at such an advanced age.

Above and below are veterans marching in last year's local Memorial Day parade.
We celebrate with parades, family gatherings, picnics, which has become a tradition.
In the photo above, Scott, Jane's brother-in-law proficiently grills a good number of burgers, franks, buns and rolls.
One of Jane's sisters guests brought her these gorgeous peonies.
..and above, who flew in unannounced to join the celebration?
I don't know. He looks familiar, but I can't name him. Can you ?
Scott also grilled bratwurst, asparagus and chicken shish kabob.
A pitcher of Bloody Mary! She's one of the most revered of Marys.
Some of Jane's family & family friends just relaxing and enjoying delicious dishes.
