GARDENING & COOKING

It's great when you can transfer your garden on to the dinner table. One of my favorite cook books, Sophia Loren demonstrates tossing a pizza. Last year, I made pizzas with my own tomatoes and basil. Here's something special from Annie, given to her by Maria Paula. This Darts Award is a form of recognizing a blogger who is "passionately dedicated to delivering cultural values, human and literary." Thank you Annie and I am flattered. I want to pass it on to :Wishing you a great weekend !

EGG SALAD

Egg salad is an ideal Summertime meal. Quick, easy, light and cool. This variation I made is just a bit spicy. I add chopped celery, onion and pickle to my eggs, with the mayonnaise, I add some mustard, dash of paprika, dill and cayenne pepper. Quick and light. Enjoy!

This is a recently opened park of Connecticut's native species. Most of the work and upkeep is done by volunteers. This is it's lovely rock garden. The plants are all tagged. The one below is Columbine. Many of the plants need time to grow. No deer are allowed. Thank you Annie for this cute & whimsical award. Annie writes two blogs, one is about cooking and the other is of cats. . .check them out :) I'm sharing this with : If I happened to leave anyone out, no fear, anyone may help themself. MALCOLM

This is Malcolm. He's like Clint Eastwood & Charles Bronson all rolled up into one tough little package. Sure he's tough.Look at that fang that seems to say "just try it." Above he and Hildegarde sharing an interest. Usually they are more foe than friends. Isn't he adorable ? Maybe a face only a mother can love, but I love him tenfold.Above is Bunny, ever cautious around Malcolm with good reason he's a brute with other cats & even dogs, but he's a lamb with people. Asleep, he looks so angelic. Above Hildegarde casts him the dirtiest look she knows how. However, Elsa thinks he's the cat's meow and loves hanging out with him. Above is Jenny's cute friendship award. Make sure you check out Jenny's blog, there's something for everyone. I'm sharing this with my new friends:
  1. Annie
  2. Sonya Silvino
  3. Antonella_Vera
  4. Au and Target
  5. Dario and anyone in a friendly mood.
Enjoy the weekend :) Brad

TRAIL HIKE

Here are some photos I took while taking a hike with my dog Quisp. The trails run through the woods and by two local small lakes. We saw chipmunks that are quick to disappear inside of Connecticut's old stone walls. Quisp was hot and he needs a summer hair cut. We took a long break before starting back. It was warm that day and we didn't have much of a breeze. As you can see Quisp was having a bad hair day. I promised to take him to the groomers.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of Summer. It honors all soldiers who lost their lives in war. Veterans accept the smallest amount of change for these man-made poppies. These are usually older men, sometimes showing battle wounds and obvious trauma they have suffered. It is simple kindness to offer whatever you can. After all they've been through, they are still working and at such an advanced age. Above and below are veterans marching in last year's local Memorial Day parade. We celebrate with parades, family gatherings, picnics, which has become a tradition. In the photo above, Scott, Jane's brother-in-law proficiently grills a good number of burgers, franks, buns and rolls. One of Jane's sisters guests brought her these gorgeous peonies. ..and above, who flew in unannounced to join the celebration? I don't know. He looks familiar, but I can't name him. Can you ? Scott also grilled bratwurst, asparagus and chicken shish kabob.A pitcher of Bloody Mary! She's one of the most revered of Marys. Some of Jane's family & family friends just relaxing and enjoying delicious dishes. The table covered in good American food.Scott, considerately showing his cool, rocker t-shirt to this camera happy guest. Ah, the sweetness of a cool breeze and shady tree ! Above..... yours truly. I didn't get to try this which I understand is pizza on a pear. Just look at all those goodies ! Some more conversation ....... Basha with a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries and other confections. Basha made this Polish wafer cake herself . More sweets. This is Jane's chili, we're adding onions, cheese and sour cream. It was fantastic. How refreshing, a Cosmopolitan. Cocoa, having a little time-out. This party was at Jane's and above are her delectable salads. Above is my plate, tomato and mozzarella salad, potato salad and macaroni salad. Chrissie, Jane's delightful niece . I am manning the grill now. My cheeseburger. We go inside, Scott prepares the karaoke machine. W e needed some singing. Chrissy belting out a good number. I didn't think I'd get into the groove, but with a little coaxing, I'm singing my heart out.
