A GLANCE BACK IN TIME

Every now and then I think of special people I've lost. I never imagine them in the cemetery and I really don't go to their burial grounds for visits. Rather, I remember them as they were, at home or on the street, maybe in a store. The way my memory works, it's nearly impossible to visit a grave and try to remember them there. Below is one of Bertha's cookbooks. She hoarded cookbooks.Below, a tint bureau of doll clothes. Another novelty cookbook, I agree Dom DeLuise was a great cook judging by his recipes. Below, details of bead work on one of Bertha's dresses. Graham Kerr, The Galloping Gourmet, a legendary personality, who drank wine liberally on his cooking show and at the end chose a female from the audience to dine with. Bertha traveled all of Europe. Her favorite souvenir was aprons. She'd pick up dozens from each land she visited. This adorable monk is from Italy. Another one of Bertha's quirky cookbooks, recipes from The Andy Griffith Show. She was a wonderfully independent, genuine , very disciplined person who loved cooking among her other unlimited pursuits and passions. p.s. Hurricane Irene made it's mark in Connecticut, pulling trees down, floods and even the gigantic supermarket had no electricity and threw away spoiled foods. Many communities are still without power. Have a good weekend, Brad
