Saint Valentine's Day was initiated in 496 AD and at that time there were no romantic connotations
The first recorded association linking romance to Valentine's Day was in 1362 when Geoffrey Chaucer wrote "For this was on Saint Valentine's Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate"
The poem was written to honor the 1st anniversary of King Richard II and Anne of Bohemia.
...and has remained a romantic date, happily ever after.
